    Mary Shepherd Thibodeaux, former associate dean of the College of Business Administration, died Oct. 24. She was 62. Thibodeaux retired in December 2006 as the associate dean of the college where she also served as the interim dean from 2004 to 2005. She joined NT in 1976 as an assistant professor of the management faculty. (0) comments

    NT celebrates 48th annual bonfire

    It certainly smelled like school spirit Friday night at the 48th annual homecoming bonfire. Students decked out in solid green and white tilted their heads to see the glowing flames roaring 100 feet into the black night sky. Hundreds of students gathered at the Eagle Point Campus to rally support for the Mean Green as it got ready to take on Middle Tennessee State University. (0) comments

    NT named Steven A. Hill director of institutional compliance, effective Dec. 3. Hill said among his responsibilities is developing a compliance-wide program for the NT system. He will manage the compliance office, which reports to NT President Gretchen Bataille. (0) comments

    As the NT Dallas campus grows, administrators are considering adding a new building. The current NT Dallas building sits on 264 acres near Interstate 20 and Houston School Road. A $25.5 million state bond made the construction of the building possible. "The growth, which exceeds our projections, has nonetheless put an enormous amount of pressure on our facilities and office space," said Greg Tomlin, director of marketing and news information for NT Dallas.     Students and faculty involved with Fry Street Village's historical art project met yesterday to reveal ideas to developers and community leaders. Final proposals were slated to be presented Thursday, but dean of the College of Visual Arts and Design Robert Milnes said he does not expect the students to finish by then. (0) comments

    NT's Fine Arts Series presented a panel lecture "1808-2008: What's next? (Race Relations in North Texas)" Thursday in the University Union. The discussion included four guest speakers: Bernestine Singley, Willie Hudspeth, Lee Martin and Zoe Charlton. "Our purpose today is not only to illuminate the creative work of four people who utilize, explore and examine the idea of race but to realize how the visual and literary art can work as agents for change," said Ann Graham, NT visual resource curator.     NT alumni and students gathered Friday at the NT Dallas campus to raise money for the Legacy Scholarship, an endowment tied to diversity at NT. The Legacy Reception was an effort started by black Dallas/Fort Worth alumni with the division of equity and diversity at NT. (0) comments

    Kevin Stevens with the environmental sciences department will help process the wastewater of Denton's ethanol plant, when it comes online in May. However, his research starts much earlier. Stevens said as soon as TetraPoint Fuels, a company out of Flower Mound, has samples of the wastewater the plant will produce, he and other faculty members will work to create a marsh environment to process the wastewater.
