OAKLAND PARK, Fla. (AP) - Broward County authorities said a grandmother was arrested for hiding cocaine in her bra during a drug raid in Oakland Park. Eight others were also arrested Friday at or near the home of Henrietta Corvin Daise, 62. Many of them were her grandchildren. (3) comments
BEIJING (AP) - An animal rights group called Monday for China to treat rats with kindness and respect, as millions across the nation begin to celebrate the coming Year of the Rat. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, or PETA, said it has asked the Chinese government to consider animal welfare laws for rats used in laboratory experiments. (1) comment
Today is Mardi Gras, a holiday reveled and reviled for the millions of beads given away and what it takes to earn them. In the spirit of the season, I have to admit I will never understand why women do the things they do for attention. There is a statue in Denton Square of a confederate soldier. It's not a large statue, maybe five and a half feet tall, and it stands on top of an eight-foot archway dedicated by Daughters of the Confederacy. It's not really noticeable unless one looks closely, but the soldier has stood watch in front of the courthouse since his dedication on June 3, 1918. (7) comments
