Opera season continues with Lucia
"Lucia has a lot in it. It has beautiful singing and some powerful dramatic action."

The NT opera will continue its production of Gaetano Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor today at 8 p.m. and at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
Both performances will be in the Lyric Theater of the Murchison Performing Arts Center.
Conducted by Dr. Stephen Dubberly and directed by Paula Homer, both of the music faculty, Lucia opened Nov. 15.
"We had a packed house," Dubberly said.
"We had a tremendous enthusiasm from the audience. Our students did so well, we are so proud of them. This is a big challenge."
Lucia is an opera adapted from a novel by Sir Walter Scott called The Bride of Lammermoor, and is based on a true story about a young girl who is forced by her family to marry for political reasons while she is love with another man, Dubberly said.
"Lucia has a lot in it," he said. "It has beautiful singing and powerful dramatic action. It has some challenges for students in terms of combining singing and acting."
Lucia's three lead acting parts where double-cast, meaning that one role will be played by two actors on different performances.
Today's performance will have Tawny Seward as Lucia, Jacob Lassetter as Enrico Ashton and Aaron Logan as Edgardo.
Sunday's performance will have Karen Kanakis as Lucia, Brian Shadowens as Enrico Ashton and Brian Nedvin as Edgardo.
Because of the great demand that the performance places on the leads, the double casting gives the performers a chance to rest their voices, Dubberly said.
Admission prices for the performances cost from $12 to $35.
