Several game-ticket and lodging options exist for members of the Mean Green nation planning to trek to the New Orleans Bowl on Dec. 14.

The Mean Green football team plays in New Orleans for the fourth consecutive year, this year against the University of Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles, and now is the time for fans to plan their trips.

Taylor Stephenson, Allen sophomore and employee in the ticket office, said tickets are currently on sale at the ticket office. Dec. 7 is the first day for ticket pick-up, and the tickets will be sold until Dec. 10.

The discounted student rate for tickets is $22, and reserved seating is $42. Kickoff for the game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. "In order to get the student rate, [students] must come to the ticket office in person with a student I.D.," Stephenson said.

Stephenson explained the placement of seating is not finalized, but the "student section" will probably be near the 20-yard-line, with reserved near the middle of the field. All seats are lower level of the Louisiana Superdome. No university-provided transportation, such as buses, is currently available, Stephenson said, and it will probably remain as such.

"There wasn't enough demand for it," Stephenson said. "Everyone's going to be on their own." The university has also planned several parties for Mean Green fans. The pre-night party, 7:30-11:30 p.m. on Dec. 13, is at the House of Blues in New Orleans. The cost is $30, which includes the cover charge and food.

A pre-game tailgate party is 3-5 p.m. on Dec. 14, the day of the New Orleans Bowl, at the Hyatt Regency in New Orleans. Stephenson said Cajun food is provided and there will be live music. The cost is $15. Tickets to both parties must be purchased in advance, according to Stephenson, and the number of tickets is limited. However, plenty of tickets still remain.

A complete package deal consisting of reserved game ticket and tickets to both parties can be purchased for $87, but this is not a discounted rate.

According to the New Orleans Bowl Web site, the official NT team hotel is Wyndham Canal Place and the rate is $70 a night. This discounted rate is only available by saying the "password" North Texas Fan, while booking the room. The hotel's phone number is 504-566-7006.

The official fan hotel is the Wyndham Whitney, also $70 a night. The discount password for this hotel is New Orleans Bowl Fan, and their phone number is 504-581-4222. A long list of New Orleans hotels is available at www.neworleansbowl.com, including nightly price and the hotel's phone number.
