During what seems to be a sabbatical, jetscreamer is acting as an undercover agent of sorts for Denton music.

The band's single "Black Hole," an interesting mix of blues and punk, was chosen last month to be the background tune for a new Nisaan Commercial. jetscreamer has been around in various forms on the Denton music scene for almost 10 years now, but it wasn't until the line-up of Samantha Moss (guitar), Will Kapinos (guitar and vocals) and Alex Maples (drums), that they were signed to British label Bella Union.

Moss seemed modest when interviewed. She was keen to avoid the limelight and often praised those who have helped jetscreamer along the way. Talking particularly about Josh Pearson, previously of Lift to Experience, she said, "Pearson is still on the label (Bella Union) and he remains probably the most influential and revered of all of the Texas bands. He's the one who gave our stuff to the label so it's because of him we were signed."

The band spent time on a United Kingdom tour in the fall of 2003 after releasing its debut album Starhead.

"Actually we toured England and Scotland in a really funny order," Moss said. "We played in Swindon and Bath, which is kind of middle England, then we played three shows in London and went straight to Glasgow. We played there then we came back, had a day off and went all the way down to Brighton. "It was fun though, we had some good times," she said.

After playing the College Music Journal Showcase in New York City last month and the departure of drummer Alex Maples, jetscreamer is currently taking a winter break from visible musical exploits.

"We have a new drummer (Bill Myatt) so we're currently trying to get him up to speed and so that's what we're doing just now," Moss said. "We're just taking a break to really, really work on that."

Despite the quiet winter, jetscreamer will be worth watching for when the new year arrives. "We know we are playing South by Southwest," Moss said. "Yeah, we already received our invite for that and hopefully soon we'll start recording a new album."
