MTV will be on campus today from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Free Speech Area auditioning NT students for all of their reality TV shows.

Sponsored by the Student Government Association, MTV was given university approval Tuesday by the Student Activities Office after contacting NT two weeks ago. According to Marcedes Fuller, SGA director of relations, communications and marketing, MTV has never had the chance to come to NT before.

"This is something that they've wanted to do for a while but they hadn't had the opportunity to make it here yet," said Samantha Weber, Houston senior and SGA vice president. After being given the approval just three days before the event, there wasn't much time to advertise to the students.

"Because it is such short notice, I'm concerned about the turnout," Weber said. "But when students see something interesting on campus, they tend to gravitate toward it."

MTV is on a nationwide tour seeking to find college-aged students to play in upcoming seasons. Targeting 18 to 23 year-old singles, candidates must fill out an application and questionnaire concerning their hobbies, interests, music preferences and other parts of their personality.

From there, applicants could be contacted for a second interview and given the chance to film a casting tape to be sent to New York for evaluation.

"No matter what area we are in, we like to hit up all the schools in that area," Andy Guze, MTV casting agent, said. "We know NT has a vibrant student body."

However, some students aren't as excited about MTV's appearance on campus.

"I probably wouldn't audition because I wouldn't want to put my life out there like that for the public," Sherry Yang, Irving junior, said.

The tour has currently auditioned students from all around the Dallas area including Southern Methodist University and Texas Christian University.
