NT advisers offer pre-graduation tips
Leslie Wimmer
Life Intern
For NT students who want to be sure they haven't missed anything before they cross a stage in a cap and gown, the Daily asks advisers: what should every NT student do before they graduate?
Paul Hudak, Geography adviser
"I'd say to do an internship and consider taking a field course in another country to gain international experience. I think also that too many students don't use the services of the career center. I would recommend that, too."
Theresa Flowers, English adviser
"I really think that studying abroad and taking a class abroad is a great idea.
It gives you a different viewpoint of what's going on around the world, and we even have exchange programs in this country that can show students things going on outside of our little neighborhood."
David Taylor, University Honors adviser
"Take a course in something that interests them. Whether it carries any core or major requirement or not, just take a course in something that interests them."
Marc Grether, Mathematics adviser
"One thing I would say that students don't do that they should is to take advantage of the programs that this school offers, like when Maya Angelou came by. More students should definitely take advantage of these programs."
Ric Dwinnell, Office of Student Advising College of Arts & Sciences academic services director
"Certainly, I would encourage study abroad programs to enrich students' education. If not that, to involve themselves perhaps in the national student exchange which is a program that can go to other schools here in the United States. Giving them, again, just some different perspectives, a different environment, just enriching their education when they do these kinds of things.
