Honorable and educated over issues that affect Texas cities and citizens were just a few of the remarks Frank Sturzl, executive director of the Texas Municipal League, had to say about Denton mayor Euline Brock's service to the league.
Brock was awarded during the TML Annual Conference in Grapevine last Thursday for her "tireless efforts as an advocate for the city of Denton and all Texas cities."
She is one of only two people to receive such and honor in the league's history.
"In order to effectively represent our member cities at the capitol, we need to have our city officials come to Austin themselves to either provide testimony," Sturzl said. "With Euline Brock, every time we call and said we need help, most of the time she managed to get here."
Sturzl said the award is very special to TML and is not given every year.
"When some city official really stands out in terms of coming to Austin to help, not only her city but others," he said. "That's a big deal."
Brock said she was humbled by Sturzl's comments.
"I know that this is the second time in the history of the organization that they had recognized a mayor or any city elected official - in representing the interest of the city for the legislature," she said. "I appreciate it."
Brock has been a major advocate for the organization, speaking on numerous issues concerning annexation and water policies before legislative committees.
During the 79th Texas Legislature, Brock spoke before many committees about the negative effects appraisal and revenue caps would have on city governance and citizens across the state.
Brock has been a public official for 20 years in Denton and served in numerous capacities in city government. She is in the middle of the last year of her last term, which will end in the middle of May.
Sturzl said TML would miss Brock's service to all the 1,080 Texas cities the league serves.
"I don't know about her work specifically within the city of Denton, but I can tell that if it's similar to work she did on behalf of other cities is just outstanding," he said. "We're going to miss her."
