Veteran's Day is being celebrated at NT by the Air Force Reserve Officers' Training Corps cadet wing with a lowering of the flag and a speech by General Bruce Carlson, commander of the Air Force Materiel Command ,Friday at 3:30 p.m. at the University Union flagpole.

Carlson's speech will be followed by a moment of silence and then the lowering of the flag. "To The Colors" and the national anthem will be played afterward.

The honor guard will present the flag to Brian Fedor, cadet wing commander of detachment 835, which includes cadets from NT, Midwestern State University, Southern Methodist University, University of Texas Dallas, and Texas Woman's University.

Fedor said formal retreats are done daily on active military bases to announce the end of the workday.

"It means a lot to us, considering we have friends that have been lost in Iraq," Fedor said.

He said, in past years, the speech has revolved around the history of the Air Force and current conflicts, including the war on terrorism.

The retreat is expected to last 30 minutes after the cadets return from the Veteran's Day Parade in Dallas.

Fedor has served active duty as a Combat Weather Forecaster with the U.S. Air Force in Ansbach, Germany.
