The number of students requesting the pass has grown since they first started distributing them last year, said Kenya Kemp, graduate assistant of student development.
She said they gave out about 200 passes last semester, and they are expecting to give out 300 to 350 this fall.
"It's getting popular the more the word gets out," Kemp said.
Kemp described a traditional student at the NT Dallas campus as someone who may work full-time, have a family, or already have a degree and is coming back to school to enhance their degree. She said students also come to the NT Dallas campus from the Dallas County Community College district and DART is a convenient mode of transportation.
"Most of our students are already working [full-time] and have families," Kemp said. "DART is a good way for them to get around."
Morgan Lyons, manager of media relations for DART, said most people use the transit system for trips to work. With NT Dallas growing in that area, DART is providing more ways for people to get around and to the campus, he said.
"We're always looking for new opportunities for large organizations, whether jobs or educational facilities, to make it easy for people to use our services," Lyons said.
The DART railing system will be extending to Carrollton, creating a new station at Trinity Mills, said Dee Leggett, VP of Marketing for DART.
The RailDCTA, scheduled to open in 2010, will run along the side of I-35E from Carrollton to stations ending in downtown Denton and the Denton Regional Medical Center, she said.
