Lorena Sandoval, 21, a senior from El Paso died Saturday morning from strangulation, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office.
Officer Jim Bryan of the Denton police said Sandoval lived with her boyfriend, Sean Kresse, 24, in an apartment on Coronado Drive. At 11:57 p.m. Friday, a woman later identified as Kresse's mother called 911 from the apartment. She said she needed help and was performing CPR. Denton Police and Fire Departments responded, found Sandoval and transported her to Presbyterian Hospital where she was pronounced dead Saturday.
Police arrested Kresse at the scene for public intoxication other than alcohol.
"The apartment belonged to Sean and Lorena; they lived together," Bryan said.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office determined in an autopsy that strangulation was the cause of death, and Kresse was subsequently arrested by Denton police and charged with murder. According to the Denton County sheriff's records, Kresse is in jail on $200,000 bond. Kresse was unavailable for comment.
Maria Sandoval, Lorena's mother, said Lorena was one of three siblings and planned to graduate from NT in May 2008.
"She was a good young woman," Maria said in Spanish. "She didn't do drugs, smoke or drink and she had good grades."
Maria said Lorena had many dreams and plans for the future after graduation. Lorena was pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in entrepreneurship. Maria said that at times Lorena fought with her boyfriend, though it was never this violent.
"I think that a lot of young women are in this situation, and hopefully this can serve as an example for them to get help," Maria said. "I don't want for them to be a statistic like my daughter."

I don't know why this is being turned into an issue of domestic violence. Sean was practically delirious, anyone spending more than an hour around the guy should have understood that he was simply unstable and not wholly there. (Continued…)

I really appreciate the article you have written about Lori, however, it is somewhat misleading. I was and still consider myself one of Lori's many good friends and co-worker. (Continued…)

I knew Lorena Sandoval very well. We were very good friends our freshman year at UNT (I have since transferred to the University of Connecticut). I want everyone to know that Lorena was a thoughtful, kind, and smart person and I will miss her SO much. (Continued…)

I don't understand why the article portraits Sean's mother as if she had really tried to resusitate Lorena, when in reality, if she had intended any help, she would have called 911 immediately rather than trying to get there in time; to me it sounds more like trying to spare her son from getting in trouble with the law. I knew Sean Kresse in high school and had actually seen him on the street several weeks before this happened. The dude was pretty delusional. He was telling me about some picture he took of a mirror in the dark and how the reflection in it looked like the soul of former Mayhem singer Per Yngve Ohlin. (Continued…)
