An unidentified man ran into the 7-Eleven on 1415 W. Oak St. yesterday at about 3:30 p.m. carrying a knife.
"He was lying on the floor, bleeding," said Terry Lawlis, manager of the 7-Eleven.
Lawlis said he was in the back room of the convenience store when the unidentified man ran into the store and hid behind the counter. The man was crawling on the floor, Lawlis said. The man said he was attacked across the street when a stranger jumped out of a closet in his apartment building and attempted "to kill him."
The injured man told employees he wrestled the knife he was cut with from the assailant's hands and was hiding in the store.
On the floor behind the rack of hot dogs and burritos, several paper towels soaked in blood were visible, even as customers continued to shop in the store. Drops of blood trailed out of the store in the parking lot as well.
Jim Bryan, spokesman for the Denton Police Department, said a call was made for an injured person to the police department. Four police cars responded, along with an ambulance and one fire engine.
