The number one rated show on network television last summer will be coming to the Lone Star State to find performers for the next season of America's Got Talent.

Sharon Nash, senior casting producer and NT alumna, said the NBC show is excited about coming to Texas to find up and coming performers.

"Dallas always gives us a lot of talent," she said.

Nash said the winners from last season were both found through the auditions in Dallas and she hopes this year's search will find many gifted, charismatic performers.

"We're looking for quirky and off-beat stuff," she said.

Singers, dancers, comedians, magicians and all other types of performers are invited to audition, and Nash said all ages are welcome.

"Last year we had a 100-year-old guy sing," she said.

Nash advises people who want to be on the hit show to give 100 percent in their auditions.

"Just bring it, like they say in that cheerleader movie," she said. "Do it like today is the day you'll win a million dollars."

Meghan Miller, a 19-year-old ventriloquist who performed her talent on last summer's show, said she was discovered through the Dallas auditions.

The Beaumont native said she has been performing since she was 7 and submitted a tape of her act to the show.

"I wasn't expecting to hear anything back," she said. "In December [2006], they called and invited me to the open auditions to get a video of my act."

Miller said she was selected to be on the show and went to the first taping in April 2007 in Los Angeles.

"It was an incredible experience," she said.

Miller said she was able to meet the show's executive producer Simon Cowell.

During a taping in Las Vegas, Miller said she was preparing to go on stage when she saw the television star.

"I love him," she said. "I'm obsessed with American Idol."

Miller said she introduced herself, and Cowell said her talent was good.

"He's really pleasant, and I was completely surprised."

Miller said the show brought more interest to her act and Web site, bringing her goal of being a professional ventriloquist a lot closer.

Currently studying business at the University of Texas at Austin, Miller said she hopes people who want to audition enjoy it as much as she did.

"Don't take it too seriously," she said. "It's fun, and it's a great opportunity to get on television."

America's Got Talent will hold open auditions March 2 and 3 at the Fairmont Hotel in Dallas. Applications are available at nbc.com/agt.

Those wanting a chance to compete are encouraged to email casting producers at dallasagtcasting@gmail.com to arrange an appointment time and submit audition materials.
