Camille Hall
Issue date: 3/27/08 Section: OPINION
Candidate:
The following statements outline all of the complaints filed during the SGA election held Monday, March 10, 2008 - Friday, March 14, 2008, as well as the outcomes of each complaint.
Complaint: Kline/Finberg campaign took down opponent signage.
Outcome: The Election Board determined that this complaint was invalid due to lack of evidence.
Complaint: Holman/Vittrup campaign took down opponent signage.
Outcome: The Election Board determined that this complaint was invalid due to lack of evidence.
Complaint: Kline/Finberg Facebook group created prior to the first official day of campaigning.
Outcome: The Election Board deemed this complaint irrelevant as there is nothing stated in the by-laws as to when campaigning can begin.
Complaint: Kline solicited writers from the NT Daily and Freshman Intern(s) to "ghost write" articles on behalf of his campaign.
Outcome: The Election Board deemed complaint irrelevant as there is nothing stated in the by-laws as prohibiting this.
Complaint: Kline posted a message on behalf of Kline/Finberg campaign on Facebook using the Pit Crew group. The Pit Crew was created by SGA, who also maintains and funds the organization.
Outcome: Because the Pit Crew is funded by university dollars, the Election Board deemed the complaint to be in violation of Article 5, Section 5, Item B of the SGA by-laws, making it a legitimate violation that could warrant disqualification.
Complaint: Kline sent campaign messages on Facebook while working in the Dean of Students Office.
Outcome: The Election Code investigated the claim, found it to be true, and deemed the complaint to be in violation of Article 5, Section 5, Item B of the SGA by-laws, making it a legitimate violation that could warrant disqualification.
Complaint: Kline handed out flyers in front of Wooten Hall without a solicitation permit.
Outcome: The Election Board investigated the complaint and found insufficient evidence. The complaint was deemed irrelevant.

The language used by Camille here seems to be quite telling that this revote is less about the actual complaints and more about "our guy didn't win, let's try this again. (Continued…)

Actually...if you look at the SGA bylaws only one part of Article V, Section V has a provision for disqualification. That would kinda explain why that language was inserted. (Continued…)

I don't think the SGA is living up to our expectations, wants, and needs and I completely agree with ya'll there but that is why it is important we elect Jeff Kline and Rebecca Finberg into office. (Continued…)

I agree disqualification would have been an easier route but everyone has the right to due process. Looking based off the offences seems that the Kline/Finberg camp were more open to breaking major rules and trying to bend them. (Continued…)

Stop using your title like it means you know what you're talking about.
Oh really, Kline/Finberg were more open about rule breaking? The Thomas/Vittrup campaign's main strategy was following their opponents around just to see if they could slip up, and making up outright lies and accusations to damage them. (Continued…)

Hey Kate, maybe we could work together for the university next year and instead of work on university things we could just sit there and do what we want to do on the clockout. (Continued…)

Kate, I'm pretty sure that complaints can come from anywhere... not just from the candidates, so I think you are pretty much dead wrong in that regard. (Continued…)

I'm a Holman supporter, but I was a little unsure of Kline until now. I've heard plenty of the bad side of Kline/Finberg platform, since I know some pretty avid Holman supporters, but I've given the benefit of the doubt to Jeff Kline . (Continued…)
