The FM 407 overpass on Interstate-35E in Lewisville is scheduled to close Saturday. The project is being done by the Texas Department of Transportation.

The road will be closed all day because the construction workers have to take off part of the existing road and repave a new one.

The overpass will be closed from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., said Daniel Kendrick, maintenance supervisor for the Northwest Dallas County Texas Department of Public Safety.

People using the highway to go north will need to use the Garden Ridge exit instead of 407 to go west of I-35, said David Stocks, public works manager for the city of Lewisville. He said eastbound traffic would have to go south on Frontage Road and go to the next exit to go north on I-35.

There will be four message boards on the highways and service roads, Kendrick said, informing drivers of where to take detours and the proper exit.

He said the road is being closed Saturday because it cannot be shut down during the week because of commuter traffic.

"We have to melt off half an inch of asphalt on top, a very thin layer, and then smooth it out and then take out some of the impurities of the asphalt," Kendrick said.

The department will overlay the deconstructed roads with a fresh layer of asphalt. The roads have been noticeably jarring with potholes in the area, Kendrick said, and that's why they're being smoothed over.

"The potholes aren't very deep, but they're enough to rattle a car a little bit," Kendrick said.

Kendrick said he didn't request any police activity because there should be no problem with traffic.
