This summer Mike Myers will star in "The Love Guru." The comedy follows a guru who comes to the United States and starts a self-help business for those with romantic troubles. The Daily had a chance to speak with Myers about his role.
Q You're famous for your characters. So what are some of the things you do on set or off set just to get into character? ?
A Well I stay in character all day. It's kind of an odd thing. My hero is Peter Sellers, and I studied everything that he did and all of the preparation. ?
Q What characteristics did you learn about yourself and your characters that enlightened your own personal life? ?
A Everything I do is autobiographical in some form, either directly or indirectly. With even a character like Deder, there's a side of me that has artistic aspirations that would want to be taken seriously as an artist. ?
Q What have you learned or what advice would you give to people on love and relationships through your character as "The Love Guru"? ?
A Here's what I would say to the people. I would say that the goal of any of this stuff, spirituality, is to be happy. That's it. We're only on this earth for like, seconds. And we might as well spend the time being happy. ?
Q I was just wondering how you find inspiration as you keep going. Do you ever get stuck or anything like that? ?
A Not, the, you know, this process is meticulous. A lot of stuff in life is contradictory, you know what I mean? ?It's meticulous and it's free. It's tedious and it's exhilarating. You know, it's both of those things. You spend hours and hours trying to make the script as tight, as funny and as meaningful as possible.
