DENTON, TX (KNTU) The University of North Texas recently received presidential recognition for contributions to the community. UNT is listed on the second annual President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll. This distinction recognizes the university's efforts to build a culture of civic service throughout the nation. Spokesperson for the university Ellen Rossetti said UNT cultivates the attitudes of community service, "through a wide range of programs ranging from our Center for Play Therapy in the College of Education, to a wide array of environmental programs that directly affect north Texas, to the involvement of our students, our faculty, and our staff members in community service projects across the region."
Secretary of Education Margret Spellings congratulated the attendees at the event in San Diego. Rossetti says that UNT is proud to have received the honor. "I think any award that UNT wins helps to increase the recognition of the university," she said. More than five hundred colleges and universities were named to the list.
