At 113 Industrial St., the Food Snobs should have found this restaurant easily, but with Carli driving, we passed it several times. We laughed as we realized it is located next door to Fuzzy's Tacos.
The outside appearance is appealing as it offers a patio for those who enjoy eating outside. The restaurant still looks freshly painted and decorated as it opened about a month ago.
As we walked inside, we were confused as to if we should seat ourselves or wait for someone to seat us. We seated ourselves and took a booth against a red wall.
The atmosphere reminded Carli of the Fourth of July with patriotic decorations such as American flags, red and blue painted walls and a Jukebox that played classics such as Janis Joplin.
The fans blowing overhead were a relief from the summer heat and gave the Food Snobs a summertime feel.
Rooster's Roadhouse is reminiscent of Texas Roadhouse only because of the free peanuts for customers, but unlike Texas Roadhouse, the peanut shells are not scattered across the floor. The restaurant is kept clean with servers sweeping the floor often.
Rooster's also has a bar area with three flat screen televisions hanging on its walls.
Fish and antlers also decorate the restaurant's walls.
A friendly waitress soon took our drink orders. The Food Snobs had to try the restaurant's specialty appetizer called Red Neck Sushi and anticipated the unusual combination of brisket, cheese and sweet pickles wrapped in a sushi manner.
The Red Neck Sushi arrived shortly and it tasted great. Carrie thought it was a tangy mix of spice and barbeque flavor, and Carli agreed.
When the waitress brought out our appetizer, we ordered our food. Carli ordered the chopped brisket sandwich with fries and Carrie chose the basic cheese burger with fries. We were disappointed to find it was an extra $2 for fries, but couldn't complain because their meals were each $4.95.
Carli's chopped brisket was served on two warm, toasted slices of bread instead of the usual bun. The chopped brisket was sweet and warm as it exuded from the bread. Carrie's burger was piled high with lettuce, tomatoes and pickles and melted with American cheese. She thought the burger tasted like it came right off the grill. The Food Snobs agreed that the fries were hot and crispy.
We were satisfied and full, but the waitress offered dessert specials that the Food Snobs could not turn down and decided on splitting a piece of chocolate chip pie. We were surprised when it arrived because it was the pie filling in a jam jar with whip cream on the top. Carrie, who is a fan of sweets, was reminded of the Paradise Pie served at Chili's. It was warm and gooey, and Carli said it was rich and chocolaty.
If students are looking for a good place to eat with the feel of being at a Fourth of July picnic without the heat, Rooster's Roadhouse is the place to go.
Rooster's Roadhouse is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday and 11 a.m. to 12 a.m. Thursday through Saturday.
