The North Texas State Fair and Rodeo is commemorating its 80th anniversary and celebrating "The Cowboy Way" this year Aug. 15 to 23
The fair will be at 2217 N. Carroll Blvd. and will feature a variety of entertainment such as concerts, horse shows, contests, tournaments and a carnival with rides.
Executive director Glenn Carlton has worked for the fair for three years, originally volunteering for the fair 20 years ago. The fair started in 1928 and is a volunteer-supported, non-profit organization.
He said 120,000 people turned out for the fair last year.
"The most popular event this year will be the rodeo and concert," Carlton said. "Stoney LaRue, The Randy Rogers Band and Restless Heart are going to be the popular concerts."
Ryan Fleenor, 21, has lived in Denton for 13 years and went to the fair when he was a little boy. He said this year he is going to see The Randy Rogers Band with his friends.
"I have not been to the fair since I was younger because I just did not make the time to go, but I will definitely make the time to go see The Randy Rogers Band," Fleenor said.
Tickets cost $12 for adults and $5 for children age 6 and up. People can go to the fair's Web site, ntfair.com, for a list of events and dates.
