The NT Ice Hockey Club took a win and a loss to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in a two-game series this weekend at the Dr Pepper Stars Center in Valley Ranch.

    Game 1

ULL took the first victory over NT with a final score of 8-6.

Sophomore forward Sean Caldwell had a goal in the first and second periods with assists coming from senior forward James Morlock and sophomore forward Drew Nichols, respectively.

The NT offense netted a total of six goals, but NT goaltender Joe Wall was only able to save 24 of the 32 shots from ULL. Wall had been battling a foot injury and was unable to practice for the last few weeks, head coach Craig Buck said.

"He's a little bit rusty still," Buck said, "so we're hoping he gets out to practice this week before our A&M series this weekend."

    Game 2

NT rallied behind a hat trick by sophomore forward Drew Nichols on Saturday to come away with a 6-5 win in the second game against ULL.

Nichols scored two goals in the second period - one unassisted on a power play and the other on an assist by sophomore forward Robert Kennedy. Nichols topped off his hat trick by scoring an unassisted goal in the third period.

"We could tell Lafayette was getting frustrated that our smallest player kept beating their goalie," Morlock said.

Buck said he wants to see a better defensive effort from NT this weekend when it travels to College Station to play Texas A&M University.

"We've been giving up too many odd-man rushes," Buck said. "We have to get our forwards helping out on the defensive end better."
