"Animal Crossing" fans nationwide rejoice with the release of "Animal Crossing: City Folk" for the Nintendo Wii.
The game is clearly an extension and Wii-invention of the Nintendo DS title, "Animal Crossing: Wild World."
The result is just as wonderful as other "Animal Crossing" titles, and sure enough, the gang comes with a few new tricks up its furry sleeve.
You start off on a bus ride with the smooth-talking Kapp'n at the wheel. Here, you meet Rover, who will basically be your guide for your "Animal Crossing" journey.
Rover lets you set the clock, name your town and yourself, and asks a couple of questions which will determine what your character will look like.
Before you know it, you've arrived in your own animal village. Choose your house, do a few errands for the raccoon himself, and you're on your way.
At least, that's one option. "City Folk" also gives players the opportunity to use their DS village instead of creating a new one.
This is an enticing addition for those of us who have invested hours of hard work into our DS village, as we now have the chance to run around our DS town with Wii-quality graphics and using the Wii controls that, as expected, are amazing.
You can use the Wiimote by itself, pointing in the direction you want your character to move and pressing A to interact with villagers, doors, etc., and B to pick up things like shells, bells and fallen fruit. Or you can also use the nunchuck to walk around if you prefer a more classic style of movement.
In any case, whether you choose to import your old village or start fresh, you're in for a wonderful ride.
As you would expect, possibly the biggest new addition to "City Folk" is, well, the city.
For the first time, players can take a bus to the city, where a variety of amusing things await them.
Grab a balloon or a bubble wand from the friendly vendor, get your shoes shined by a hard-working skunk, have a look around the auction house or Gracie's way-overpriced store or check out Redd's shady new location.
"City Folk" also comes packaged with "Wii Speak," which is basically a microphone that you set on your television that allows you to clearly communicate with players thousands of miles away.
In short, fans of previous "Animal Crossing" games should have only one reservation, and that should be the one holding the game for them at their favorite gaming store.
For anyone new to the series, this is a great place to start, and hey, don't be nervous - Tom Nook will take good care of you.
