The NT Bigs, a branch of the national Big Brothers Big Sisters organization, is hoping to make an impact on the NT campus with a "big change."
The student organization hosted "The Big Change," a showcase of dance teams from the Dallas-Fort Worth area on Monday night in the Lyceum. The money earned from the event will help the organization promote mentoring among NT's students.
The event featured nine high school and college dance teams, said NT Big President Mike Ufomadu, a kinesiology sophomore.
Dancers from The Dallas Powerhouse of Dance, the Krumpin' Crew, the Denton Celtic Dancers, NT's Basic Rhythm and several teams from a Dallas dance company called Dance Fusion performed in the showcase.
These young dancers said they were excited about the opportunity to dance on a stage for a crowd of about 75 people.
"I definitely wanted to jump on the opportunity," said Nicole Hill, the director of Powerhouse of Dance, the hip-hop company from Dallas. "It gives our dance team a chance to give back."
"I think the event will impact the community because it gives kids the opportunity to showcase their talents in a way they wouldn't normally," said marketing sophomore Joshua Chatman.
