Band member Ray Brinker is a jazz studies alumnus and former member of NT's One O'Clock Lab Band.
The group's performance will be a great inspiration for NT's aspiring musicians, said Craig Marshall, manager of the jazz studies program.
"The students will see that they can not only be a professional success, but they can also perform at the highest art level," said Marshall, who is also the manager and producer of the One O'Clock Lab Band.
Audience members will be able to interact with the band members by asking them questions in addition to watching them perform on stage.
The group's members have been together for more than 15 years and, therefore, really push the envelope as artists, Marshall said.
"When musicians of that caliber collaborate for that period of time, very great musical things happen," he said.
Sutton said playing at NT is a special treat for the band.
"We do educational stuff all over, but it is a real pleasure and honor to be doing this here," Sutton said. "Especially since Ray is an alumnus, it is not only exciting for him, but for us as well."
Because of NT's large music program, Sutton said he hopes the group will influence young aspiring musicians.
"The easiest thing we have to offer is that we have been involved in this process together for 15 years," she said.
Along with the performance, the Tierney Sutton Band has been visiting classes this week to answer questions and discuss music.
"The kids have been pretty interested in how a band works," Sutton said. "They want to know how to get together, how to stay together and just how to make it work."
After its performance at NT, the band will perform at the North Texas Jazz Festival on Thursday in Addison and then again at NT on Saturday.
