"The Soloist"
Starring Jamie Foxx, Robert Downey Jr., Catherine Keener
Directed by Joe Wright
This oft-delayed biopic, starring comeback kid Robert Downey Jr. as L.A. Times columnist Steve Lopez and Jamie Foxx as his mentally disturbed, homeless cellist discovery, had prestige written all over it till it got pushed back from November to now. But I have faith in the director ("Pride and Prejudice," "Atonement") and the solid cast.
Cinemark Denton, Rave Hickory Creek, AMC Highland Village, Cinemark Vista Ridge Mall
"Obsessed"
Starring Idris Elba, Beyoncé Knowles, Ali Larter
Directed by Steve Shill
David Loughery, screenwriter of last year's incredibly subtle Samuel L. Jackson vehicle "Lakeview Terrace" ("I'm the po-lice! You have to do what I say!") is clearly obsessed with stalker movies, cribbing from top-shelf thrillers like "Fatal Attraction" to rubbish like "Swimfan." Larter of TV's "Heroes" plays the lady getting too close for comfort.
Cinemark Denton, Rave Hickory Creek, AMC Highland Village, Studio Movie Grill Lewisville, Cinemark Vista Ridge Mall
"Fighting"
Starring Channing Tatum, Terrence Howard, Luis Guzman
Directed by Dito Montiel
I can't really tell any difference between this and last year's "Never Back Down," but I doubt that will be a problem for most moviegoers. Plus, everything you need to know is in the title.
