Graduate student Aaron David Wuensch, 25, died on Tuesday June 9th at Denton Presbyterian Hospital after suffering from cardiac arrest while working out at the Pohl Recreation Center. Staff at the recreation center, who are first aid and CPR certified, responded to Wuensch immediately. Denton and fire emergency personnel transported Wuensch to Denton Presbyterian Hospital.

Wuensch graduated from UNT in 2008 with a bachelor's degree in economics. He was currently working on his master's degree in economics and worked as a teaching assistant in the economics department at UNT as well.

Wuensch was born on October 30, 1983 in Ft. Campell, Kentucky to David Thomas and Linda Lee Clark Wuensch.

Family and friends said Wuensch was active in sports from a young age. He was an avid swimmer who competed on a national level and was all-around swimming champion at 12 years old. Wuensch recently competed in the Texas Men's triathlon on May 17, 2009.

A Facebook group that was created by Wuensch's close friends and family members in honor of Wuensch states that "he was a Chicago sports fan and he loved movies, exercise, economics and friends. Aaron had a great since of humor and loved joking with people."

Friends and family members alike were shocked to hear of his death. Josh Ness, a close friend and recent UNT graduate, said Wuensch had no previous medical conditions that would have lead to cardiac arrest.

"He was the most fit and healthy person I knew," Ness said. Ness and Wuensch met through a student organization on campus and later became roommates and close friends.

Denise Martzall, a UNT senior majoring in theater, met Wuensch through friends and said that he was an extremely friendly, laid-back and a fun person to have around.

"He was the kind of person you could meet and feel like you've known your whole life," Martzall said.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, June 13, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Methodist Church in Allen. The pre-service viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m. and the service will begin at 11:00 a.m.
